First wedding dance instruction for non-dancers

Many couples wait until the last minute to decide about their first wedding dance details, such as picking the song and then how the heck are they going to learn to dance in 2 weeks?

As a former wedding dance instructor and choreographer I can tell you that it can be done in a matter of a few hours as long as you keep it simple. You do not have to spend thousands of dollars on an 8-week course at your local Fred Astaire studio.

All you need to know is:
  1. how to hold your partner, usually in a closed and/or open embrace
  2. how to do some easy lead and follow techniques; you should learn how to feel the slight pressure and resistance so that the leader can guide the follow.
  3. learn a basic box step, walking step
  4. learn a basic underarm turn for the bride
  5. learn a fancy dip for your ending (and picture pose)
That's it! Now pick a song and put it all together in a simple choreographed routine. To help you with the choreography try this great wedding dance instructional video package.
