As a former wedding dance instructor and choreographer I can tell you that it can be done in a matter of a few hours as long as you keep it simple. You do not have to spend thousands of dollars on an 8-week course at your local Fred Astaire studio.
All you need to know is:
- how to hold your partner, usually in a closed and/or open embrace
- how to do some easy lead and follow techniques; you should learn how to feel the slight pressure and resistance so that the leader can guide the follow.
- learn a basic box step, walking step
- learn a basic underarm turn for the bride
- learn a fancy dip for your ending (and picture pose)
